Spreading Awareness

Hikikomori Poster Concept

This awareness poster explores the Japanese phenomenon of Hikikomori, a term describing people, often gamers, who voluntarily withdraw completely from society. With the topic and slogan already defined when this assignment was briefed, my challenge was to communicate the issue through a powerful visual metaphor.

Using image association, visual experimentation and digital illustration, I developed a layered composition that encourages viewers to pause, reflect and engage with the message. Typography was carefully integrated to strengthen the overall impact of the poster.

Process

The focus of this project was to communicate a difficult subject in a way that genuinely captures attention. I explored numerous visual associations before finding a concept with enough emotional impact. Every illustration was sketched by hand before being refined and completed digitally in Photoshop.

Curious about the process behind this project? I'd be happy to share the full research, concept development and visual studies that shaped the final design. Feel free to get in touch.

Design Method

  • Geometric drawing of an outline square with sections divided by vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines.

    In-depth Research

Every project begins with listening and observing. I explore the story behind the brand or product to understand what it truly wants to communicate.

    Concept Development

Those insights evolve into a visual system where emotion and strategy come together. This is where the tone, rhythm and direction of the design take shape.

    Iterative Exploration

Typography, colour and composition are refined through experimentation. Every iteration brings the visual language closer to its strongest and most coherent form.

    Presentation

The final outcome should be more than a finished design; it should tell a story. Every project is presented with careful attention to context, consistency and experience.
